He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Auckland Council's Environmental Services department is seeking a highly skilled Biosecurity Principal Advisor - to provide strategic guidance and specialist biosecurity advice to the planning and delivery of Auckland Council’s pest management activities. In this pivotal role, you will lead the development and implementation of operational policies and strategies aligned with the Regional Pest Management Plan (RPMP). Your work will play a crucial role in protecting and enhancing Auckland's unique biodiversity, ensuring that ecosystems and threatened species are thriving, as well as protecting primary production and Māori cultural values from the impacts of pests.

 

He kōrero mōu: About you
We are looking for someone with a strong background in biosecurity, pest management, ecology, or conservation, or environmental science, with at least 10 years of experience, with an emphasis on biosecurity or pest management. You will have excellent strategic planning and project management skills, along with a deep understanding of New Zealand's ecosystems and the Biosecurity Act. As a relationship builder and influencer, you will develop effective partnerships with internal teams, key stakeholders, community groups, and tangata whenua to protect Auckland's biodiversity. You will also have excellent written communication skills. 

 

You will need:

  • Postgraduate degree in biosecurity, ecology, conservation, environmental science or other relevant field.
  • Full NZ Driver’s licence.
  • 10 years’ work experience in biosecurity and/or biodiversity in  regional/local/central government or conservation sector.
  • Excellent strategic planning capability, knowledge of process improvement and project management.
  • Experience in developing policy using stakeholder and community consultation.
