He angitūtanga: The opportunity 

As General Manager – Auckland Urban Development Office, you’ll be at the forefront of shaping Auckland’s urban future. This is a unique opportunity to lead the planning and delivery of major regeneration and development initiatives—integrating funding, infrastructure, and strategic partnerships to support growth in Auckland’s key locations. 

 

Sitting at the heart of the Council’s urban development function, the Auckland Urban Development Office collaborates on large-scale, place-based programmes, working closely with mana whenua, central government, private sector partners and the wider Auckland Council group. Your role will bring these partners together to unlock development opportunities and deliver high-quality, climate-aligned and community-led outcomes. 

 

You’ll also oversee commercial property transactions ensuring our land and property assets are delivering the best possible outcomes for our city and communities.

 

He kōrero mōu: About you 

You’re an urban development leader with a bold vision, collaborative approach, and proven track record of delivering large-scale regeneration and investment programmes. Whether your experience comes from public, private, or cross-sector partnerships, you know how to bring people, land, and capital together to create lasting impact. 

 

You will bring: 

  • At least 15 years’ experience in urban development, regeneration, infrastructure, or property 
  • A strong commercial mindset with deep understanding of property transactions and strategic asset management 
  • Expertise in navigating complex governance, iwi engagement, and public-private partnership environments 
  • The ability to influence, inspire, and drive delivery across diverse internal and external stakeholders 
  • A future-focused, values-led approach grounded in equity, climate action, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi 

 

You lead through collaboration, care and clarity—guiding high-performing teams and building trust across multiple sectors and communities.
