Associate Curator – Research & Heritage Services 
 

Join Auckland Libraries and help shape our documentary heritage collections. As an Associate Curator you’ll be part of a team committed to developing inclusive, accessible heritage collections that reflect the voices of Tāmaki Makaurau.  

 

This is a permanent, part time role of 20 hours per week, based at the Central City Library.  

 

In this role you’ll contribute to the development, care and promotion of heritage collections across many formats. Day to day, key tasks of the role would include:  

 

  • responding to research enquiries or offers of donation 

  • research and writing for proposed new acquisitions 

  • working alongside curatorial colleagues on collection assessment projects 

  • engagement work such as exhibition research, blog posts and social media content.

You’ll be a collaborative and culturally aware professional with: 

 

  • Curatorial, research library, special collections, museum or archive experience 

  • Strong research, communication, and public engagement skills 

  • A relevant tertiary qualification (Level 5+) 

  • Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, te ao Māori, and tikanga Māori

Curatorial Services is a small team within Research and Heritage with many years of collective experience caring for the unique and valuable heritage collections held at Auckland Council Libraries. Working with us you will have the opportunity to build on your existing skills in a supportive and collegial environment. You’ll be able to work with unique and special collections and develop your expertise with a variety of formats including rare books and newspapers, archives and manuscripts, photographs, ephemera, maps, oral history and music.
