He angitūtanga: The opportunity
You will be working at the frontline in reducing alcohol-related harm in the community by ensuring compliance. This role involves reporting on applications made by people or businesses seeking to enter or remain in the hospitality industry, visiting premises to both educate licensees and managers, carrying out inspections (includes some night monitoring) gathering evidence, and preparing reports and taking enforcement steps to compel compliance as and when necessary. You will carry out the monitoring of licensed premises and events to ensure that they are compliant with the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 and be involved with the court hearing process if a case is escalated. You will work with both internal and external stakeholders including the police, Auckland Regional Public Health, and environmental health to resolve compliance issues and foster a collaborative approach to issues.
This full-time permanent role works 40 hours per week Monday to Friday. We have multiple vacancies:
- North Team based in Albany
- Central Team based in CBD
- South Team based in Manukau

Being the 'face' of Auckland Council in many situations, your professionalism, ability to mediate and negotiate will be second to none. Your verbal and written communication skills are key to the role. As there is a lot of interaction you will also need to have highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate and deal with a wide range of sectors. A natural problem solver, you will demonstrate an ability to understand what is required to build relationships and resolve conflict through negotiation. This would suit individuals with two years of experience in compliance, law enforcement, investigation, or regulatory environment. You are a strong team player, able to demonstrate a solid understanding of relevant legislation as well as the ability to effectively translate requirements to customers. A current full clean driver's license is essential.
