He angitūtanga: The opportunity

We are looking for an applied Air Quality Scientist with great analytical and reporting skills.  If you are experienced in monitoring emissions and urban air quality issues, and you can communicate and translate science effectively to a variety of audiences, then this role in Auckland Council’s Research and Evaluation Unit (RIMU) could be ideal for you.

Our RIMU teams are responsible for monitoring and reporting on Auckland’s environment.  We collect, process, analyse and evaluate a wide range of environmental data across the marine, freshwater, land and air domains, often in collaboration with other management agencies and research institutes, to provide high-quality evidence and information to decision makers and Aucklanders.

As an Air Quality Scientist in a growing urban city, you will be working with complex air quality issues from multiple emission sources. You will be accountable for the management and delivery of council’s air quality monitoring and research programmes – specifically the discovery and design process, analysis of data and reporting of complex information, and programme evaluation and review.  As well as running our regional monitoring network, you will be responsible for implementing new technologies in a smart sensor network. Communicating results and providing robust advice to decision makers on air quality issues will be a key part of the role so an understanding of air quality standards and health implications is essential.
He kōrero mōu: About you
You are up to date with air quality monitoring techniques, are able to manipulate and interpret complex datasets, identify research gaps and opportunities, communicate complex information effectively to a range of audiences and build effective and positive relationships with others.
You have demonstrated experience in outdoor air quality monitoring, modelling, emission inventories or atmospheric research, together with an understanding of New Zealand’s regulatory framework for air quality and local government processes. A post graduate degree or equivalent qualification in environmental science or meteorology is essential.
Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer
In addition to the benefits you enjoy as a council employee, we offer you the opportunity to be part of our highly engaged and supportive RIMU environment teams - a collective of highly skilled professionals who are passionate about the preservation of Auckland’s environment.  See Knowledge Auckland, a website managed by RIMU, for a repository of published research, information, analysis and data about Auckland's communities, economy and environment.
Take the next step in your career and embrace this fantastic opportunity, apply now!  For more information you can also contact Shar Mahon on +64-27 769 1880 for a confidential chat or for a copy of the position description.
This role is deemed safety sensitive and in line with Auckland Council policy, you will be required to complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.  A full driver's license is a requirement.
