He angitūtanga: The opportunity

 

 

Auckland Council’s Health, Safety & Wellbeing Team is excited to offer a permanent full-time opportunity to join our close-knit team as an Advisor – Hauora and Wellbeing. This is a hybrid role (3x days in the office) are based in the Auckland CBD, with travel required throughout the region. You’ll be part of a high‑trust environment that supports flexibility, autonomy, and accountability.

 

This role facilitates wellbeing and hauora for internal kaimahi, directly supporting frontline staff and people leaders who may be exposed to potential harm from critical incidents, significant change, or a variety of work-related and personal challenges. The role provides the opportunity to uplift kaimahi by holding space to share what’s on their plate, build initial skills and strategies to manage and offering avenues of support.

 

Collaborating with health, safety and wellbeing (HSW) touchpoints in an adaptable manner enabling the restoration of mana, strengthen internal resilience and recalibrates well being across the organisation.

 

 

The remuneration range for these roles are $88,000 – $97,000 depending on experience and skillset.

You help ensure kaimahi feel supported, safe to speak up, and confident to seek help when needed. Your presence plays a key role in strengthening wellbeing outcomes, enhancing resilience, and embedding wellbeing practices into everyday operations.

 

 


Ngā kawenga matua: Key responsibilities

 

 

You are a champion of hauora, creating psychological safety and promoting positive wellbeing behaviours that foster a culture prioritising mental health and wellbeing. Demonstrating a commitment to ethical practice and confidentiality, supported by regular supervision and a reflective practice.

 

Day to day you can expect to work on:

  • Provide immediate post-incident or crisis support, ensuring kaimahi impacted are identified, supported, and referred to external specialist services.
  • Delivering inhouse kaitiakitanga, Manaaki and tautoko pastoral care, well being support for kaimahi facilitating them to flourish within their environments
  • Question and improve the process by ensuring the intention and delivery align to the development and delivery of meaningful programmes of work.
  • Tautoko (support) the design, navigation, and delivery of hauora initiatives aligned with the Whanake Ora Hauora Wellbeing Strategy FY2025–2028.

 

 

He kōrero mōu: About you 

 

 

You are an empathetic wellbeing professional, highly skilled in cultivating and maintaining strong relationships across diverse and varied stakeholders. Employing your ability to facilitate and coach kaimahi while simultaneously maintaining clear boundaries and supporting your own wellbeing through self-awareness and self-regulation in complex and challenging situations.

 

You are passionate about achieving positive outcomes through empowerment and transformation, using services, resources, and tools to support and uplift others. Utilising your active listening skills, with the ability to read between the lines. You bring strong HSW and injury management literacy, including psychosocial risk mitigation, and can confidently apply positive psychology models.

 


We will be looking for specific experience with:

 

  • A relevant tertiary degree in social work or psychology or equivalent of lived work experience.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in Mental Health and Wellbeing or a related field, preferably within large, complex, and diverse organisations.
  • Demonstratable experience delivering Mental Health and Wellbeing strategies in large, complex organisational settings.
  • Membership to a relevant professional body such as NZISM, Workplace Wellbeing Professionals Association or similar
  • Sound understanding of Te Ao Māori, with the ability to apply te reo Māori, tikanga, and mātauranga Māori to effectively communicate and inform wellbeing practice, underpinned by Te Whare Tapa Whā.
