Auckland Council has an opportunity for an experienced security professional to join our CCTV and Access Control team within Corporate Property.
In this role, you will support the safe and secure operation of Auckland Council buildings by monitoring CCTV and access control systems, responding to security and duress alarms, and escalating incidents to the appropriate stakeholders.
You will help maintain the security and integrity of CCTV systems, access data and investigation records while providing a visible security presence and physical response capability across our corporate buildings.
Strong stakeholder management will be central to your success. You will work closely with employees, contractors, security providers and internal teams, communicating clearly and ensuring incidents, risks and concerns are managed promptly and professionally.
You can expect to:
• Lead daily operations within the CCTV Control Room
• Monitor CCTV, access control and related building security systems
• Respond to security and duress alarms and escalate incidents promptly
• Build effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
• Support security investigations and prepare accurate reports
• Ensure CCTV footage and access data are stored securely and handled in accordance with relevant legislation
• Conduct regular inspections of Auckland Council buildings
• Identify security risks, trends and opportunities for improvement
• Assist with the reliability of visitor management, intercom, licence plate recognition and related security systems
• Provide access data to support occupancy and building utilisation reporting
• Support access coordination during periods of high demand
This is a safety sensitive role, as impairment or a failure to perform the duties safely could create a material risk of harm to people or damage to property.

You will bring a strong understanding of building security, CCTV, access control and related systems, supported by practical experience in an operational security environment.
You will be an excellent listener and communicator who can build trusted relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. You will take a proactive approach to your work, responding to tasks and incidents in a timely manner while keeping the right people informed.
Calm and considered under pressure, you will use sound judgement to make effective decisions. You will be confident assessing situations, identifying priorities and taking appropriate action when security incidents arise.
You will plan and prioritise your workload effectively, focusing on the most important activities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. A strong customer service ethic, personal ownership and a genuine sense of responsibility will be essential.
We will be looking for:
• At least five years of experience in operational security roles, ideally within a large and complex organisation operating across multiple sites
• Strong knowledge of CCTV, access control and related building security systems
• Excellent listening and communication skills
• Strong stakeholder management and relationship building capability
• The ability to make sound and timely decisions
• Effective planning, prioritisation and attention to detail
• A proactive approach and the ability to complete tasks promptly
• A strong customer service ethic and sense of personal ownership
• Experience responding to alarms, incidents and security investigations
• The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
• A professional manner and high standard of personal presentation
• Confidence using Microsoft Excel and Word
• A full New Zealand driver licence
Experience in a customer facing environment would be an advantage.
