Based at the Manukau Memorial Gardens, this is a place of beauty, reflection and remembrance for all of those that visit.

As Head Sexton you are responsible for operational excellence in the delivery of all burial and cremation services.  Critical operational tasks include: workforce planning, maintenance of plant and equipment, the management of contractors and ensuring the timely and efficient delivery of services whilst taking into account the sensitivity of the bereaved who have entrusted their loved ones into this special place

There are also provisions to ensure we comply with statutory requirements, Council policies, By-laws and health & safety.  Managing a number of key stakeholder relationships is also a large part of the role

He kōrero mōu: About you

We're looking for someone who appreciates developing and improving systems and processes. It is important that you're motivated, flexible, and a well-presented person to support the business and operational planning and management of the cemetery operations team, at our South sector cemeteries. Your ability to motivate and lead our Sexton team is also critical to success in this role. 

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • 2-3 years managing / supervising a "hands-on" operations work team
  • preferably you will have experience in cemetery and crematorium operations
  • 3-5 years in a frontline customer service role.
  • experience with budget management and analysis.
  • a good level of computer operating skills
  • a clean, full NZ driver's licence (HT class 2 license is advantageous)
  • strong background with health and safety requirements

This is a permanent position which works 40 hours per week, with some weekend hours and flexibility for overtime and as and when required, to meet the needs of the business.
