He angitūtanga: The opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a specialist or senior specialist to lead and support applied water science projects in the Healthy Waters Regional Planning team of Auckland Council. Our projects are growing, exciting and applied. This role will shape and grow the region’s most advanced water quality model able to continuously simulate a range of contaminants and processes (Freshwater Management tool - FWMT). The role will require research of mitigation strategies (both practices and devices) and designing new monitoring networks for the FWMT and wider Healthy Water’s needs.

We approach solving water quality problems with a blend of science, engineering, catchment management, planning and stakeholder engagement.  As part of this role you will lead development of new functionality or inputs for the Freshwater Management tool and develop new relationships with science providers to support Healthy Waters deliver evidence for Council to underpin water quality improvement and management across the region.

With a Masters or Doctorate in science, you’ll have at last 3+ years previous experience as a specialist or scientist in freshwater management and relevant experience in regional authority, academia, primary industry, three waters infrastructure or private sector. You’re passionate and driven by water quality, want to grow in a supportive environment and are comfortable facing new challenges taking the team with you. We’re particularly interested in hearing from ecologists, geochemists and/or geomorphologists that are driven by solutions implementation, continuous improvement and a desire to see solutions adapted to enable science to be translated into action!
