The opportunity

The Healthy Waters department at Auckland Council is responsible for managing water quality and quantity of stormwater and natural water systems. The catchment planning team has the challenge to provide affordable stormwater solutions to accommodate the impacts of climate change, sea level rise, overland flows, capacity constraints and flooding risks while catering for Auckland’s growth without compromising on environmental outcomes. You’ll be the subject matter expert leading the project brief development of robust, buildable and affordable solutions to growth issues and asset renewals. You’ll also lead on growth related planning, including development areas and future urban areas. This is an exciting opportunity to work collaboratively with Watercare, Auckland Transport, Parks, developers and other infrastructure providers to develop effective solutions in this space.

As part of this role with Healthy Waters you will:

  • Manage development of Stormwater Management Plans and Catchment Management Plans
  • Manage development of stormwater models to understand stormwater network performance and flood hazards
  • Manage scoping of realistic, robust, buildable and affordable solutions to growth issues and asset renewals that are realistic, buildable and affordable, taking into account whole of life costs
  • Provide public facing information about stormwater management in Auckland
  • Input into land use planning activities such as Unitary Plan, Area Plans, Structure Plans, and Plan Changes to ensure future stormwater liabilities and effects from stormwater are minimised (prevention)

About you

We’re looking for specialists and senior specialists with previous experience in stormwater management and relevant experience in three waters infrastructure sector or equivalent. You’ll also have proven experience in project management and implementing a range of stormwater management techniques including engineered stormwater management, sustainable urban design, hydrology and environmental performance of stormwater systems.

With an engineering or science background, you’ll bring your stakeholder management skills and thorough knowledge of hydrology and water sensitive design to this role.
