He angitūtanga: The opportunity

We are looking for you to join the southern sector regional parks ranger team! This role has a wide scope of duties and includes increasing community involvement in regional parks through volunteer, partnership, community engagement programmes and initiatives. It is your responsibility to develop partnerships, build relationships with community and other groups and strengthen community and stakeholder relations. In addition to this, you will be responsible for the management of the sector's health and safety policy and procedures, as well as staff training. You will also ensure the volunteer programme is working well by managing the volunteer programme and communication with community groups. Building and maintaining those partnerships. This is a truly unique role where you are able to partner with different groups and work in great projects. Very rewarding. Regional Parks have a great reputation.

He kōrero mōu: About you

An appropriate tertiary or recognised qualification in parks, recreation or environmental management is a requirement for this position, as are excellent communication and proven relationship building skills. Knowledge of park operations would be an advantage but not essential. To be successful in this role you will also be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the New Zealand Health and Safety procedures in the work place. 

This position is based at the southern sector office at Ardmore. However, you will be required to work across the southern sector network of parks and be able to work weekends and public holidays on a standby roster system. A current New Zealand Drivers Licence is essential as you will be travelling within the Auckland region. 


This position is deemed a safety-sensitive position and will require pre-employment drug testing. Auckland Council is committed to the protection and wellbeing of children. A component of this role involves interaction with children so, as a part of the assessment of candidates, we will require Police Vetting of candidates to ensure we are providing a safe environment for children. This requirement complies with the Vulnerable Children Act 2014.
