He angitūtanga: The opportunity
 
Auckland Council’s farming operation spans across 21 Regional and local Park locations throughout the Auckland region and at 1700ha is thought to be one of the world’s largest urban farming enterprises. The farming operations comprise 6650 sheep/1200 cattle in total, both breeding and finishing. Stock class management, breed type, stocking rates and sheep to cattle ratio are set on the best fit for managing public land without compromising the park resources and wider objectives.
 
Reporting to the Southern Operations Manager, you’ll be required to assist with implementing operational plans across Auckland Council’s Southern farms. As Block Supervisor you’ll play an active role in all day-to-day farm activities including animal health, seasonal events relating to stock, pasture management, feed budgeting and record keeping. This varied position will also involve ensuring maintenance/development works are undertaken, supporting the team with training & development and assisting the Farming Manager with financial budgeting.
 
He kōrero mōu: About you
 
To be successful as a Block Supervisor you’ll need a wide range of practical sheep and beef farming skills, including high level stock and pasture management skills along with a capable team of 1-2 working dogs. You’ll have excellent communication skills, a continuous improvement mind-set and be receptive to learning new technologies. The confidence to lead others and make on-farm decisions in the absence of the Farm Manager is essential.

You will be required to have a valid NZ driver's licence due to the nature of the position where you will be required to regularly travel to various Community Facility sites across the Auckland region.
