As kaitiaki (guardian) of our land and facilities, we have an important role in facilitating the wider social, economic, environmental and cultural outcomes that promote the wellbeing of our communities. 


The Land Advisory Services Team sits within the Property and Commercial Business unit and provides quality land and property services, delivery and advice to other council departments and external customers relating to land holdings, assets and land use.  The Land Advisory team provides high quality technical advice and services in order to secure, protect and enhance a unique, accessible and diverse asset and open space network that defines Auckland and is valued and enjoyed.


Reporting to the Manager Land Advisory Services, the primary purpose of the Specialist Technical Statutory Advisor role is the provision of high quality technical advice, support and assistance to other teams within council, external stakeholder groups and the general public on matters relating to the acquisition, use, alienation and disposal of council land and property assets. 


Additionally, you will act as a conduit between the Council and CCO's and other external agencies to assist in the delivery of Council's Acquisition and Disposal work Programme. 


What that means is that you will respond to requests, investigate, and report on land information ensuring compliance with all statutory legislation to ensure stakeholders can make detailed, highly informed decisions.


He kōrero mōu: About you
 

To be successful in this role you will be a seasoned land and property professional or an experienced lawyer, legal executive or paralegal with statutory experience. With proven knowledge of and experience in land and property dealings, acquisition and disposal, and management.


You will be strong in the interpretation and application of relevant legislation including the Reserves, Public Works, and Local Government Acts. 


Of particular importance is a significant level of understanding of local government acquisitions and disposal of real properties in public ownership. 


From a more practical perspective, you will bring strong organisational and report writing skills, the ability to research and provide quality property, statutory and legal advice (including on historical information and records for acquisition and disposal of properties) alongside demonstrated competency in facilitating effective consultative processes, quality, risk and financial management. 


Experience working with Māori or within Māori paradigms is desirable as is a sound sense of humour and the ability to interact with a diverse team of specialists and experts.
