Auckland Unlimited (AUL) is a newly created council-controlled organisation (CCO) established with an important mandate to drive investment, supporting Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland businesses to innovate and thrive, enhancing Auckland as a culturally vibrant city, telling the Tāmaki Makaurau story, and importantly providing experiences and opportunities for all. 

 

We are looking for Senior Project Managers to assist in delivery of capital work projects. 

 

He kōrero mōu: About you

 

As a Senior Project Manager, you will have significant experience in end-to-end capital works project and programme delivery, leading multiple project teams responsible for significant and complex budgets from business case development through to construction site monitoring and asset handover.

You will be well organised with the ability to plan and prioritise effectively, being savvy to deal with ambiguity while making quality decisions in a dynamic challenging environment. It should go without saying that you have the agility to work cross functionally while managing a number of diverse projects at the same time.

Alongside a collaborative nature and solid relationship management skills, you’ll bring a clear customer service ethic as well as a sense of personal ownership and responsibility

 

Senior Project Managers (Project Management Office) at Auckland Unlimited

 

Our exciting and diverse Portfolio includes many of Auckland’s iconic and landmark venues including: Auckland Stadiums, Auckland Zoo, Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, The New Zealand Maritime Museum, Auckland Film Studios and several Theatre and Performance venues across the City.

 

Reporting to the Head of Capital Projects, in this role you will be primarily responsible for the effective delivery of key capital works projects and programmes.

 

In the Project Management Office our Senior Project Managers are enabled to do more than just deliver projects.  You will also be involved in prioritisation and programming activities as well as being an important conduit between the Capital Projects Team and our Business Brands.

 

Key responsibilities

 

  • Oversee the effective delivery of key Capital Projects and Programmes
  • Manage the prioritisation of initiatives in conjunction with key stakeholders
  • Assist with planning activities for the areas of the portfolio
  • Ensure capital projects respond to AUL's environmental sustainability objectives
  • Identify and manage dependencies and interdependencies across other programmes and projects.
  • Work closely with the other Senior Project Managers and Head of Capital Projects to develop an organisation-wide portfolio view
  • Develop and maintain a rolling 3-6 monthly resource capacity view for an assigned portfolio and plan and ensure it connects to successful project execution
  • Provide mentoring and delivery oversight to project managers
  • Act as a key relationship manager between the Capital Projects Team and the areas of the Business relevant to your assigned portfolio
  • Maintain positive and collaborative working relationships internally and externally
  • Manage and report budgets in accordance with organisational policies and practices
  • Ensure compliance with AUL procurement policies and relevant legislation
  • Represent AUL at key vendor-led meetings, workshops, and conferences
  • Consistently embed over-arching governance and best practice project delivery
  • Facilitate and manage resources to ensure continuous delivery and the achievement of delivery targets

 

 

Senior Project Manager (Zoo Design & Construction) at Auckland Zoo

 

This role is within the Zoo Environment, Design & Construction department at Auckland Zoo and is primarily responsible for the effective delivery of medium to large capital works projects under the direction of the Programme Manager.   A senior role within the team will require mentoring and coaching of peers, acting as a point of contact for technical advice, management of more complex or critical projects and small programmes, and assisting the Capital Programme Manager with team development, strategic planning and delivery of the overall capital programme.

 

This role supports the objectives of the Department by contributing towards the implementation of the Zoo’s Master Plan and delivery of the Zoo’s annual CAPEX budget.

Key responsibilities

 

  • Ensure projects meet the needs and requirements of Auckland Zoo and all identified stakeholders in terms of deliverables, operational requirements, animal welfare and visitor services.
  • Identify and manage the impact of developments on the Zoo, the Staff, the Visitors and the Animal Collection.  This applies to both the physical impact of the construction and the demand on the time and resources on the stakeholders during the design and delivery phases.
  • In collaboration with the Programme Manager, proactively and creatively develop new ideas and processes that will help improve the department and the way that projects are delivered.
  • Effectively manage contractors and work with colleagues in accordance with the appropriate policies and procedures, to ensure programme delivery is achieved, within agreed performance, objectives and to health and safety requirements
  • Work with the Contracts Administrator and Programme Manager under the guidance of the Head of Zoo Environment, Design & Construction to deliver agreed department objectives.
  • Demonstrate consistent leadership through advocacy and clear communication of Auckland Zoo’s strategic direction and, in this context, represent Auckland Zoo publicly when required.
  • In collaboration with the Programme Manager develop, implement, and continuously improve systems aligned to the needs of the department.
  • Identify and communicate opportunities to improve administrative and delivery processes that align to best practice.
  • Encourage and promote best practice by sharing ideas, contributing to project teams, making recommendations and networking with all levels of staff.

You will have strong portfolio, programme and project management and prioritisation skills together with excellent written and verbal communication skills.   

 

Key skills/competencies

 

  • Proven 7+ years’ experience in programme management and project management
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex cross-organisational projects involving multiple stakeholders, business units within a matrix organisational structure
  • Ability to strengthen and nurture key responsibilities within the different stakeholders
  • Understanding of the construction industry including risk management, compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Experience with contract management
  • Proven leadership capability
  • Ability to build trust and strong partnerships and work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders, often with different agendas
  • Strong financial acumen
  • Strong organisational, interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Capable of developing appropriate solutions
  • An ability to work with all levels internally and externally, build constructive relationships, influence stakeholders and an ability to engage with senior management and on the ground staff effectively
