12-Month Fixed-Term Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced Identity Engineer to join Auckland Council's Information Security team and help shape the future of identity and access management across one of New Zealand's largest and most complex technology environments.

This is a hands-on technical role where you'll design, implement, and support modern identity solutions across cloud and hybrid environments. Working closely with Security, Architecture, Platform Engineering, and Application teams, you'll strengthen identity governance, enhance access controls, and support Auckland Council's ongoing cloud transformation.

You'll play a key role in delivering secure, reliable, and user-friendly identity services for more than 10,000 workforce users while contributing to the evolution of our identity capabilities and security posture.

Ngā kawenga matua | Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and enhance identity and access management capabilities across cloud and hybrid environments
• Support the implementation of Identity Governance, Privileged Access Management (PAM), RBAC, ABAC, and least privilege controls
• Deliver Single Sign-On (SSO), Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), and identity federation solutions
• Partner with Architecture and Engineering teams to integrate identity services into applications and cloud platforms
• Identify and remediate identity and access control gaps across systems and environments
• Contribute IAM expertise to cloud migration and transformation initiatives
• Collaborate with Security Operations to improve identity monitoring, governance, and compliance outcomes
• Maintain operational documentation and contribute to the ongoing maturity of Auckland Council's IAM capability

He kōrero mōu | About you

You'll be a technically strong IAM professional with proven experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise identity solutions. You understand identity management end to end, from authentication and federation through to privileged access, governance, and access controls.

To be successful in this role, you'll bring:

• Strong experience with Microsoft Entra ID, Azure, and enterprise IAM platforms
• Experience implementing SSO, MFA, RBAC, and identity governance solutions
• Knowledge of authentication and federation standards such as SAML, OAuth, and OpenID Connect
• Experience supporting cloud migration programmes and hybrid environments
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams
• Relevant certifications such as SC-300, AZ-104, AZ-500, CISSP, or equivalent industry experience are highly regarded
